In The Garden at Green Acres Manor!
In addition to maintaining a beautiful, park-like setting for our landscape, we have
multiple garden areas that produce a bountiful harvest of fresh vegetables & herbs, fruit,
and flowers of all kinds. Each year our gardens seem to expand and grow. Sonoma County
provides such an ideal climate for so many different plants to grow and prosper. We just
have to take advantage!
Our residents love the fact that they have fresh fruit and vegetables to eat in addition
to all of the items that are freshly prepared from them including soups, breads, and salads. Many
of our residents enjoy spending time amidst the sun and soil, helping us harvest the fruits
of our labor. Perennial plants include blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and newly
planted trees including Asian pear, plum, and cherry. We also have other cherry plum trees
and a walnut tree. A small vineyard was planted in 2007, and is expanding here in 2009.
Annual plants include tomatoes, zucchini, squash, bell peppers, green beans, eggplant,
spicy peppers, pumpkins, cantaloupe, watermelon, and herbs including basil, cilantro,
parsley, mint, rosemary, and thyme.
