Green Acres Manor News - September 2006
Hi Everyone,
As summer draws a close, the good times keep rolling along at Green Acres Manor. We had
some great times in August, and we have some more planned for September. So get your
calendars out!!! The most fun thing for us at least, was the opportunity to spend a day at
the Sonoma County Fair with some of our residents. It was a beautiful day, and we saw
everything the fair had to offer including garden exhibits, all the animals, the art
exhibits, and the exhibition hall with all of its’ finery. We had a wonderful lunch,
and a great time was had by all.
Our garden is producing the most wonderful vegetables right now as well. It is really
incredible how fresh herbs and vegetables taste so much better than store bought. It
is also amazing how well things grow up here. We look forward to expanding our garden
in the years to come.
It’s time to mark your calendars!
* On Saturday, September 9th at 1:00pm we will host an Ice Cream Social. All family and
friends are welcome. We will have a few classic flavors of ice cream, cones or cups,
and all the yummie fixings to make a sundae. Your choice! Come and join us for a nice
afternoon.
* On Saturday, October 14th we will be participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Memory
Walk. The time is 10am at Spring Lake Park. Brochures are included for more details. We
would like to get as much participation as possible with this event. It is close to our
hearts. Everyone can help support by participating with us at the walk and or by donating
to this very worthy cause. Our team name is The Green Machine, representing Green Acres
Manor with the team captain being Joe Hansen. You will need this information to fill out
the donation card. Please return these cards to me so we can know who will be walking with
us. Please make checks payable to the Alzheimer’s Association and not to us. Call me if
you have any other questions on this event. We would really like to see a good turnout and
be able to make a nice contribution to a very worthy organization.
* On Saturday and Sunday, October 28th and 29th we will have a pumpkin picking weekend.
We hope to have a plentiful supply of pumpkins in our pumpkin patch for families to choose
from. We will also have a pumpkin carving contest. This weekend, please feel free to come
any time and stay as long as you like. It will be more of an open house for everyone to
visit and have fun. We will judge the pumpkins on Sunday evening. We hope to line the
walkway up to the front door with a spectacular display of your craftsmanship.
We celebrated two birthdays this past month. Peg Poole celebrated her 97th birthday on
August 1st. Lee Goetz celebrated his 87th birthday on August 10th. Happy Birthday to
you both! Unfortunately for us, Lee will be leaving Green Acres Manor in September.
The family has found a care home much closer to them. We wish Lee well. It was a
pleasure to have him in our lives.
Have a great September!
Joe Hansen
