Charity Wine Tasting Event benefitting the Alzheimer's Association
August 27, 2011, 4-7pm
Hosted by Monica and Joe Hansen
Participating Wineries: Mac McDonald, owner/winemaker Vision Cellars along with his wife and partner Lil from the Russian River Valley, Craig Strehlow, owner/winemaker Keefer Ranch also from the Russian River Valley, Richard Roessler, owner R2, a new winery in Sonoma, and Donna Carrol, tasting room manager, Landmark Vineyards right here in Kenwood.
These folks were all very gracious with being here at Green Acres Manor to pour their wines for our close to 40 guests and 50 total attendees. Each guest donated $50 towards the Alzheimer's Association to help in their fight to find a cure to end this growing disease. A total of $2,200 was raised by this event along with a raffle for a bottle of wine from each winery.
Our guests were treated to a beautiful afternoon of exceptional wine, delicious food, and wonderful music and company. Everyone enjoyed the wines being poured by these four wineries along with the wines made right here by owner Joe Hansen, called Dichotomy Wines. Older wines from each of the four wineries were also brought out from Joe's private cellar to compliment the current vintages being poured, along with some very special older, and cult wines later in the evening. A vineyard tour was also taken by some of the guests showing them the home vineyard and organic gardens here at Green Acres, as well as the Truman King Estate Vineyard, our dear deceased neighbor, where Joe's chardonnay grapes from. Wine making techniques and vineyard practices were discussed while on the tour.
Food was also donated by two local Kenwood restaurants, Cafe Citti and Dolce Luna to compliment the amazing catering efforts of our close friends Lauren Wood & Ryan Hortum. Ryan also served as sommlier for the event. Friend and employee, Josiane Doignee was our photographer. St Patrick's Episcopal Church was kind enough to allow us to use their parking lot.
A presentation by Melinda Wright and Shelley Dombroski from the Alzheimer's Association educated our guests on their local efforts here in Sonoma to help folks with this horrible disease. They discussed what the Alzheimer's Association does, their research efforts, local work being done, and the larger fund raising event, Walk to End Alzheimer's, to be held Saturday, October 15th at Shollenberger Park in Petaluma.
